The network was created from a simple but increasingly important idea: in a globalised economy, clients frequently require legal assistance outside their own country. Companies invest internationally, individuals relocate, assets and transactions cross borders, and disputes increasingly involve several jurisdictions.

WHY “JUSTINIAN”?

Our name pays tribute to Emperor Justinian I, one of the most influential figures in the history of law.

Justinian ruled the Eastern Roman, or Byzantine, Empire from 527 to 565 and was married to the famous Empress Theodora.

His reign had an extraordinary and lasting impact on legal history. Under his authority, Roman law was systematically collected, revised and organised in what later became known as the Corpus Juris Civilis.

The Corpus Juris Civilis preserved and systematised centuries of Roman legal thought and subsequently became one of the principal foundations of the continental European civil-law tradition. Its influence extended far beyond the Byzantine Empire and can still be recognised in numerous modern legal systems.

The name Justinian Lawyers therefore reflects our commitment to an idea that transcends borders: law as an instrument of organisation, cooperation, security and justice in an international society.
